I. ICM-42607 Product Overview

The ICM-42607 is a high-performance six-axis MEMS MotionTracking™ Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) launched by TDK InvenSense, which integrates three high-precision gyroscopes and three high-linearity accelerometers onto a single chip. Designed specifically for high-end consumer and industrial drones, this chip offers key advantages such as low noise, low temperature drift, low power consumption and high dynamic response. It is perfectly suited to the flight control requirements of multirotor drones, racing drones and small inspection drones, making it the preferred solution for attitude sensing systems in small and medium-sized drones.

 

The chip utilises an ultra-compact 14-pin LGA package, measuring just 2.5 mm × 3.0 mm × 0.76 mm. Its extremely small form factor significantly saves space on the drone’s onboard PCB, meeting the hardware design requirements for lightweight and compact drones, whilst effectively reducing the overall weight of the aircraft and enhancing the drone’s flight endurance and manoeuvrability.

The ICM-42607 offers the lowest gyroscope and accelerometer sensor noise among IMUs of its kind:

Gyroscope noise: typically as low as 7 mdps/√Hz

Accelerometer noise: typically as low as 100 μg/√Hz

These ultra-low-noise characteristics significantly reduce the filtering burden on post-processing algorithms, improve attitude estimation accuracy, and enable smoother drone flight.

Multi-sensor fusion: Supports externally triggered synchronous data acquisition from multiple sensors, precisely matching data from peripherals such as GPS, barometers and magnetometers
